When Two Lines Are Off Enough You Can’t Lose, Attack
I don’t want to JUST bet promotions, what else can I do?
There are a few options here. I don’t recommend tailing other individuals as a primary means of gambling, but there are some smart folks out there making intelligent picks. You can find plenty of folks who are giving out advantage plays for free. You can find a lot more who are scammy and aren’t putting real work in.
One interesting opportunity initially, is finding accounts on twitter that are partnered with an Odds Screener service. Examples of Odds Screeners include OddsJam, OddsShopper and BettorOdds. They often have a variety of twitter accounts giving out free plays. Never bet these once they’ve moved, but they are informed picks with real value.
Example twitter accounts tied to OddsScreeners: CorbieBO, C0llins_Billy, Jazzrazbets, ShanderBets
There are also a number of interesting accounts focused on finding unique edges in niche markets.
Example twitter accounts working in niche markets: gneiffer07 bets TDs and Homeruns, jaredleesmith bets no run first innings, and NBAFirstBasket bets… NBA First Baskets
Pretty quickly, though, your mind will likely turn toward “this is frustrating, how do I get these plays myself”? This is why relying on others for picks doesn’t actually advance your knowledge or skill as a sports bettor. Arbitrage betting, on the other hand, is a great way to see how markets move and lock in profit early in your gambling career. In order to do this, first familiarize yourself with an oddsboard.
You can find free oddsboards online, a few here:
Take a look at how markets move. When Circa/Pinnacle change a line… how long does it take Fanduel to react? Caesars? BetRivers? How does this change when looking at NFL main lines vs. college basketball first halves? Which books tend to be most off-market other books? You can learn a lot just by reading an odds board.
So what happens when you see two numbers for the same bet that are wildly different? You should bet them both! This is arbitrage betting.
The key here is making sure that a) the lines are advantageous, b) you know how much to bet on each side, and c) they don’t move before you submit
This can be tricky. Take your time. Find folks who specialize in this type of betting and learn from them.
Some general tips for arbitrage betting
Unlike with promotional betting and tailing, arbitrage betting is far more difficult (read: not recommended) on a mobile phone.
Ideally, you have a desktop with multiple monitors, in order to view the oddscreener at the same time you are betting on multiple sportsbooks. I use three monitors for this (one with Odds screener, one with book 1, one with book 2), but it’s feasible on one.
Circa is a viable sportsbook to utilize here. Their lower vigorish pricing provides advantageous pricing when compared with outlier books.
Start by watching the odd screener and trying to identify bets with discrepancies large enough to guarantee profit. Then watch how quickly they move. Get a feel for the timing of the plays as much as the pricing of the plays.
Arbitrage betting isn’t for everyone. Optimally, you need to be on a desktop computer, betting into multiple lines at the exact same time. It is, however, a guarantee. And starting out, familiarizing yourself with how markets move via an odds screener and arbitrage betting is a great way to learn sports betting.
