Take What The Books Give You, The Simplest Edge Available

Betting the boosts given to you by sportsbooks is a fantastic, easy way to grow your bankroll. Let's say you want to bet the Celtics vs. Lakers Moneyline (-110/-110) and receive a 50% boost for the game. Suddenly, you have a bet at +140 with a fair value of +100! Do this enough times, and your bankroll will rapidly grow.

  • So, the first tactic to attack level 1 sports betting involves taking advantage of the boosts. The types of boosts and degree of favorability varies by book, but every recreational book offers these in some ways to entice customers to continue betting with them.

  • Different types of odds boosts:

    • “Profit boosts” - Depending on the type of profit boost, and amount boosted, these can range from unplayable to outstanding. There are a variety of different types of profit boosts offered. Below is a list with an idea of how good they are:

      • Boost on anything within a market - this could be “50% on the big game”, or “33% boost on any NHL game”. These are universally favorable. The key is that you can put it on a single wager and use it on two way markets.

      • Boost on Parlays/SGPs - due to the vigorish, easily knowing how strong these plays are can be difficult. With the correct plays, can be very profitable however.

      • Boosts on One-Way markets - often times, books will offer a boost on a market that is popular with casual gamblers (NFL TD Scorer props) but are actually one-way markets with a lot of extra hidden vig. Still profitable, but caution needs used when making plays

      • Boosts on Live Bets - These are getting more popular, and can vary depending on the type of boost whether they are good. If you receive a 50% boost on any live bet, then betting a mainline during a stop in play is generally a safe bet. Betting a live TD scorer? Not as easy to determine. Also hard here, tailing promo accounts on twitter won’t help.

    • “Sweat/Risk Free” - these are typically very good. If the bet loses, you get a free bet for that amount. Still important to be careful with your Parlays and SGPs to ensure you are getting an advantage play.

      • Remember: free bets are not worth 100% of their value because you do not receive your stake back. General rule of thumb, a free bet is worth 50-60% of its listed worth (longer odds plays improve this)

    • “Fixed Odds Boosts” - books will give out “get player X to record 10 points AND 10 rebounds” for a boosted price. Depending on the book and the boost, these may or may not be good.

      • ESPNBet and Fanatics love to give out “boosted” plays that are actually very -ev bets.

  • So how do I bet these boosts? Initially, this is where establishing a twitter account comes in handy. Utilize the accounts on Twitter that are already putting the work into calculating fair value. This will help you get your feet wet and start understanding how it all works.

    • There are a lot of “+ev” twitter touts who cater to these exact promotions

      • Our guy @TheeDegenBoosts is our favorite follow, but there are a wide variety including MSUKB_Bets, promoguy123, ROIGuy, etc. As you build your network of twitter follows, you will discover which ones work best for you.

    • Turn your notifications on for these accounts and when they drop a play, go bet it. But don’t play them at worse numbers and don't get frustrated! The lines move on these plays quickly sometimes. Just wait for the next one.

    • Note on Twitter in General: Twitter has a TON of valuable learnings for sports gambling. But know who to trust. Don't listen to the people giving out hot take picks, claiming they have a can't miss lock, etc. Focus on accounts that TEACH you how to gamble, not just accounts that give you plays.
